Since it’s establishment in 2007, GHTK has outfitted the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GHPC) with incubators, patient monitors, infusion pumps, infant warmers and bassinets. The Unit has also moved to a Level 3 NICU with the introduction of CPAP in 2012 and ventilator services in 2013.
Tiffany C. was into the third semester of her pregnancy when she suffered a fit and was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC). Subsequent examinations by resident doctors revealed that she was experiencing abnormally high blood pressure and that her unborn baby was under serious threat.
Baby T. was born at 28-weeks gestation at 1 Kg. He was managed for sepsis and prematurity. He also needed ventilatory support and coded once while in the NICU. Baby T. spent almost a month in the NICU. Neonatal resuscitation was performed initially by the NICU training Nurses and later by both Paediatric Residents and Nurses.
